    This National Guard position is for a POLICE OFFICER, Position Description Number D2155000 and is part of the ID 124 Security Force Squadron, Idaho Air National Guard.

    THIS POSITION IS INDEFINITE- MAY CONVERT TO A PERMANENT STATUS WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION IF POSITION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

    THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE IDAHO AIR NATIONAL GUARD.

    This position is located in an Air National Guard Wing, Mission Support Group, Security Forces Squadron. The primary purpose of this position is to protect Federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. To maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

    Performs and enforces the full range of security forces duties within the military installation. Apprehends and detains violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turns them over to the Federal or civil police or other law enforcement officers for arrest and/or posting of collateral. Serves at fixed posts or patrols the installation on foot or in vehicles; responds to alarms, irregularities, and unusual or suspicious circumstances. Responds to calls for emergency assistance to include active shooter, suspicious persons, catastrophic events, scenes of crimes/natural disasters and enemy attacks, and makes apprehensions. Incumbent is required to perform specialized techniques, methods, and procedures to execute search and apprehension; counter terrorist operations; or counter violence posing a threat to public safety. As directed, acts as the on-scene commander for significant and catastrophic events. Performs traffic duty to include directing traffic and escorting dignitaries. Incumbent enforces pertinent administrative rules and regulations governing traffic control, parking, building, or other facility access, and breaches in physical security controls (locks, fences, gates, or other barriers). When enforcing rules and regulations established to accomplish the protective missions, security forces personnel control the movement of persons and protect lives and personal property in and around the identified Federal property. The incumbent carries out related duties such as, escorting persons and valuables; driving emergency vehicles; detecting and reporting potential fire and accident hazards; making preliminary checks of violations; and, preparing reports of incidents or security conditions.

    Serves as a Security Forces Dispatcher for the installation. Dispatches personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations. Monitors the locations of all posts, alarm systems, closed circuit television systems and telephone/radio networks. As required, coordinates with civilian police, fire, rescue and emergency units for assistance.

    Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE
    :
    This position is located in the Air National Guard Wing, Force Support Group, Security Forces Squadron. The primary purpose of this GS-0083, Police Work, is to lead, manage, and perform security force (SF) activities in direct support of the United States Nuclear Enterprise; weapon systems and physical security; law and order; military working dog; combat arms; and area security operations. The work directs the control and operations of firing ranges; inspects, repairs, and maintains ground weapons. It enforces law, maintains law and order, preserves the peace, and protects life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations.

    All GS-0083 series personnel must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for that level and must have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level. Understanding of the basic principles and concepts of military security forces functions, laws, policies, regulations, rules, procedures, and methods. Also, have general experience performing functions such as weapon systems and resource security, air base defense, law enforcement; and, if applicable for the position, experience in handling military working dog functions or combat arms functions.

    The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities (competencies) needed to fully perform the duties of the position. Basic knowledge and understanding are necessary in military weaponry, laws, security directives, programs, policies, and procedures governing Security Forces activities; installation security; weapon system and resource security; anti-terrorism; law enforcement and investigations; military working dogs; air base defense; training; pass and registration; civilian security work force; and combat arms.

    In addition to qualifying for one of the Series 0083 entry grades: GS-0083-06 and GS-0083-08, completion of the security forces (SF) apprentice course is mandatory for award of the entry level AFSC 3P031. Award of the three-skill level without a completed NACLC is authorized provided an interim Secret security clearance was granted.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
    Must have at least 9 months of experiences in performing practical security force (SF) activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security; law and order; or area security operations. Work experiences are in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations. Experiences in protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. Has experiences in responding to disaster and relief operations and participates in contingencies.
