    About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate Of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division, Patrol Branch, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington.

    • Serves as a Supervisory Police Officer (Lieutenant) with responsibility for law enforcement patrol operations during assigned shift.
    • Maintains communications with mobile patrol units and posts and passes directions and information to subordinate law enforcement supervisors and law enforcement officers on patrol assignments.
    • Ensures proper response to various calls for law enforcement services at all levels (felony and misdemeanor), to include crimes in progress, citizen complaints, and emergency situations to include natural and manmade disasters.
    • Supervises investigations not referred to detectives in areas such as, but not limited to, thefts, assaults, illegal drug possession and domestic disputes.
    • Assigns, through subordinate supervisors, work to be performed by employees in the unit and reviews work on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis.
    • Plans work, prepares schedules for completion of work, distributes and balances the workload among employees and instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Incumbent must be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, and automated police information retrieval systems.
    • Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing IAW Department of the Army guidelines.
    • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
    • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and yearly maintain an Individual Reliability Program (IRP) certification in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
    • Incumbent must pass a physical agility test every 12 months commensurate with the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with AR 190-56. Incumbent must also successfully complete semi-annual qualification on his or her assigned weapon.
    • Incumbent must pass the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Mixed Basic Police training program, other state accredited police officer training program, or military services certified academy, prior to assignment of law enforcement duties.
    • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
    • The incumbent to obtain and maintain certifications for the use of chemical aerosol irritants, TASER, radar guns, breath alcohol analysis instruments, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, automated police information retrieval systems.
    • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid stateside motor vehicle operator's license.
    • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed.
    • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons and successfully complete qualification and recertification semi-annually and thereafter of Firearms Testing.
